Orthodontics is a specialty of dentistry that involves the study and treatment of malocclusions (bad bites), which are caused by skeletal growth disparities; teeth irregularities, and jaw mal-alignment.

Orthodontics can dramatically improve patients' health and appearances.

    CHILDREN

The American Association of Orthodontics recommends that you bring your child in for an initial orthodontics evaluation at age 6 or 7. Most orthodontic problems (or
maloclussions) such as bad bites, crooked teeth, excessive spacing, or crowding, can be easily prevented or intercepted at an early age before all of the permanent teeth fully erupt. Untreated malocclusions may cause irregular wear and tear on teeth, chewing and breathing difficulty, gum recession, tooth loss, temporomandibular joint disorders (the joint connecting the upper and lower jaw), and jaw dysfunction.

    ADULTS

You may be surprised to learn that over 50% of our orthodontic patients are adults.  As an adult, correcting the alignment of your teeth, bite, and jaw can enhance not only the beauty of your smile, but your overall health.

Several types of braces are available tailored for the needs of adult orthodontic patients, including clear, removable braces that you cannot see at all. We can also use lingual appliances that attach to the inside surface of the teeth and so are not visible to the rest of the world. Treatment time and options are carefully designed to meet the medical needs of each patient.

Correcting the alignment of your teeth, bite, and jaw can enhance not only the aesthetics of your smile, but your overall health.
