RICHARD L. JACOBSON, D.M.D., M.S.
Dr. Jacobson is a recognized expert, clinician, and researcher in jaw and bite disorders and orthodontics for children and adults. He has extensive experience and has analyzed, documented, and completed treatment on over 10,000 patients.
The core of his treatment philosophy is directed towards progressively enhancing an individual patient’s health, optimal function, and natural aesthetics. Treatment is preventative, interceptive, corrective, and biomimetic.
Dr. Jacobson received his post-doctoral certification at UCLA School of Dentistry, Department of Orthodontics in 1981. He pursued advanced training in jaw and bite disorders in the Temporomandibular Joint department at UCLA and earned a masters degree in oral biology in 1983.
Over the next five years, he received additional training at the American Institute of Bioprogressive Education where he was then invited to teach. He also taught post-doctoral students enrolled in the maxillofacial surgery and orthodontic departments at UCLA School of Dentistry for the next twenty years.
Dr. Jacobson has lectured on jaw and bite disorders and orthodontics throughout the USA and abroad. He has published articles in the FORE proceedings, the Journal of Clinical Orthodontics, the American Journal of Orthodontics, and the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He has also authored chapters in books, including Cephalometric Radiography (Quintessence Publishing), and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (Lippincott-Raven Publishing). His current publication Cephalometric Radiography from Basics to 3-D 2nd ed. (Quintessence) is a best-seller.
Dr. Jacobson served as the president of the UCLA Orthodontics Alumni Association in 1985 and again in 2001. He also served as director of the Foundation for Orthodontic Research and Education from 1990 to 2000 and was then elected president. He served on the UCLA/St. John’s Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Team and also served as director of the Western Orthogmorphic Diagnostic Team, a multi-disciplinary team including prominent maxillofacial surgeons, otorhinolaryngologists, rheumatologists, neurologists, orthodontists, dentists, and speech pathologists. It was this experience and the recruiting of Dr. Stephen A. Schendel, Dr. Joseph Broujerdi, and Dr. Lawrence Myers that inspired the launching of FCLA.

Dr. Schendel is considered to be one of the most talented and experienced facial plastic surgeons in the world today. He is 'the surgeon's surgeon" and was recruited by FCLA from Stanford University, one of the more prestigious facial plastic surgery centers in the United States, where he served as Chief of Surgery.
Dr. Schendel has helped thousands of patients to improve their appearance and function and has trained hundreds of plastic and maxillofacial surgeons around the world. He is a researcher and teacher in pediatric and adult craniofacial reconstruction, plastic and maxillofacial surgery, as well as upper airway reconstruction for obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. He is also a leader in the field of distraction osteogenesis for the correction of facial deformities and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Fellow in the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Schendel is one of an elite few surgeons in the world board certified in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery as well as a board certified maxillofacial and craniofacial surgery.
Dr. Schendel graduated from the University of Minnesota Dental School in 1973. Following this, he completed a four-year residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Southwestern Medical School, Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas. From 1979 to 1980 he studied in France as a Fulbright Fellow at the University of Nantes.
Dr. Schendel then graduated from the University of Hawaii Medical School in 1983 and completed a General Surgery internship at Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas, Texas. He completed an additional two years of General Surgery training at Stanford University Medical Center, followed by completion of the Plastic Surgery training program at Stanford. He spent 1987 to 1988 as an assistant to Dr. Paul Tessier in Paris, France, and also was recipient of a Chateaubriand French Research Fellowship.
Dr. Schendel is currently in private practice in Pacific Palisades on staff at FCLA and is Professor Emiritus at Stanford University, Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Stanford University Medical School.

Dr. Joseph Broujerdi is a plastic and maxillofacial surgeon with dual training in Plastic & Reconstructive surgery and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate School of Medicine. He is the recipient of the Henry M. Goldman award from the University of Pennsylvania. His training includes a fellowship at Stanford University Medical Center and residencies at Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center and the State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate/Kings County Hospital Center, Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Broujerdi has additional training in Craniofacial & Pediatric Plastic Surgery and General Surgery. He was recruited for FCLA by Dr. Schendel after his mentoring him at Stanford University Division of Plastic Surgery/Craniofacial Surgery. Dr. Broujerdi has been in practice for over six years.
Dr. Broujerdi has written peer reviewed journal articles covering new developments in the field of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, and co-authored a book chapter on Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery. He has given presentations and spoken at national and international conferences.
In addition to his extensive experience in aesthetic surgical procedures, Dr. Broujerdi has devoted his own time and resources to medical missions in third-world countries, reconstructing pediatric patients with congenital anomalies and traumatic deformities, including cleft lip and cleft palate, and burn victims.

Dr. Myers is a board certified Naturopathic Practitioner specializing in non-surgical acute and chronic pain management, TMJ disfunction, myofascial pain, sports medicine, dietetics, and nutrition related to pain management. He is also board certified in naturopathic medicine osteopathy in Australia and South Africa.
Dr. Myers has worked with numerous national and international sports title holders and champions. He headed the medical treatment team for numerous national and world champion boxers including Oscar de la Hoya and for various sportsman including golfers Gary Player, Ernie Els, Fred Couples, Cory Pavin, Ian Woosnam, Seve Ballesteros, Bernard Langer, Nick Feldo, Greg Norman, Fulton Allen, Fuzzy Zoeller; and numerous tennis stars including Ivan Lendel, Johan Kriek, and Kevin Curren. Additionally, Dr. Myers was the head of the medical team of the Royal Ballet of Flanders in Antwerp, Belgium under the directorship of Valery Panov.
Dr. Myers competed as a professional soccer player and was a two time winner of the South African National Body Building Championship title.
